My Photography from 14 Years ago!
I was at a PUG (Pictage User Group) meeting the other night with a bunch of Nashville Photographers and guest speakers Shari Zellers asked, "How many people remember shooting film professionally? " I didn't raise my hand, because people look at me weird when I say I've been shooting professionally for 17 years :)
I'll be 35 years old this year and most photographers in Nashville, TN look at me as the "new guy" in photography.
It's funny, because sometimes I forget myself, just how long I've been shooting!
The title says 14 years ago, because that's the oldest picture in this blog post.
So last night, I did a Google image search on my name and found some old pictures that were published while I was in the Navy! One was from LIFE magazine, another was a double spread in Newsweek magazine! A couple made the covers of some military publications and some were the just fun to see and remember my time on the USS George Washington.
I learned a LOT in the Navy and not just about photography. I learned respect, hard work, attention to detail. All of those traits translate so well to photography, especially at a time when we have to be working our butts off to make it in this industry!
So I have decided to share some pictures from a long time ago. Some are not so good, but others I love! They definitely show you what life was like for me, and what I got to see everyday on an Aircraft Carrier.
These were mainly shot with a Canon F1. We later upgraded to the Nikon N90s! great cameras!

I loved experimenting with long exposures at night!

Every once in a while, I would take a helicopter to a different ship and take pictures of them.
People working out in the hanger on the USS George Washington.
Running on the flight deck is the best!
This is how everyone gets mail on the ship!
Probably thinking about his mission... I don't know how they do it.
And of course me with my Canon F1 and life vest just in case I fall over board ;)
I'm 20 in this picture.
I was a Navy Photographers Mate for 6 years.

Kelly and Will - Engaged!
Nashville, TN provides a ton of places to take pictures and one of my favorite places is Crockett Park! Kelly, Will, Rhonda and I all play frisbee golf at this course every once in a while, so I figured there is nothing better than a place you're already comfortable with!
Kelly and Will are getting married in Wisconsin and we're looking forward to another destination wedding ;)
Here are a few of the pictures I took from their engagement session!
Funny thing about this picture. I went to go get my gear and turned around to see this. As always, I am ready to shoot in a heartbeat and was glad to see how well this one turned out!
I love F1.8! (Photographer lingo)
There is nothing better than a good sneak attack to make someone laugh!
Seriously.... skipping? What are you, in love or something?
